The History of Chapter One Farms
You could say that Chapter One Farms started with a small girl's love affair with Horses many years ago. A marriage, two little girls, a divorce, a career, college for the girls, a new marriage, cancer.....
After the chemotherapy, some physical/mental therapy was in order. A perfect time to rekindle the joy of Horses. An ill mannered Off the track Thoroughbred was leased at a small riding barn close to home. A couple of months later we were putting in a run-in shed and feed room, fencing in a small paddock and creating a pasture with electric tape on temporary poles.
After we brought the thoroughbred home we determined that we needed to buy him a companion. Soon discovered two horses don't work well so we bought a third. The next year saw another mare, more pasture, a second run-in shed. A couple of foals later, we had outgrown our little seven acre paradise on the Elk River.
We are very lucky in finding this beautiful 60 acre Horse Farm. The first thing moved in were the horses. The thoroughbred now has a 15 acre pasture to play in with his buddies. The pressure was off, and the ill mannered OTTB turned into a sweet lovable Horse, nice on the trail and willing over the jumps. Life does have some happy endings.
Oh by the way, the thoroughbreds name?
"Chapter One" of course!
